We’ve all read the headlines. We have all in one way or another experienced a drastic change in how we are performing our business tasks. We can all see the ways in which our world as we knew it is changed. All of that doom and gloom seems like old news as we wait for the brighter days ahead posts. The silver lining may be the acceleration of digital business transformation that has been talked about for years. In today’s world, more organizations are allowing for a more flexible working environment and seeing things can unfold this way. Keep in mind this transformation that would normally be accommodated over a 3-year span, has in fact been rolled out over the last 6 months so there are a number of growing pains that need to be dealt with.

Organizations should not underestimate the need for transformation to happen.

To make it easy on you, here are the steps to look at when considering digital transformation.

Start with a vision

While this may have not happened back when business were shutting their doors to keep everyone safe, now is a good time to back up a little and look at what has worked during this time of transformation, what has not worked, and what is needed to improve on the situation.

Focus on Stakeholder Needs

Make your processes about the people that are using them. A digital transformation won’t work if you don’t have the input you need from the right people.

Define the Structure

Most often digital transformation will fail if there isn’t a clear goal and strategy in place. The structure needs to support the business processes, your organizational goals, all stakeholders including your employees.

Invest

This is less about spending money on tech and more about spending money in the right areas when the transformation is to take place. There are many MSPs that will advise investment in all new equipment but what if you don’t have the resources for that? Ensuring your limited dollars are spent in the right place is the best plan of action.

Communicate

While some of you may be rolling your eyes at this, thinking ‘ya, I know’ many miss this vital step. Change is hard for many and is also the reason many stick to what they know regardless of the fact it no longer is effective to use that method. Involving the people behind the processes will drive the entire transformation in the right direction.

2020 has thrown many curve balls at the way we do business. While some organizations have been able to limp along, doing the best they can, there are some that have not survived. In order to transform the way a business can be successful, a company may need to think outside the box, yet again. Tech has become an indispensable part of our daily lives and many businesses are feeling the pressure to adapt. It really doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. There are brighter days ahead.
